Grimsby look set to sign experienced 32-y/o winger

Grimsby Town are close to signing experienced French winger Elliot Grandin as reported by Grimsby Live.

The report claims the Mariners are trying to tie up a deal for the thirty-two-year-old until the end of the season.

Presently on the books at French side Saint-Pierroise, Grandin is much-travelled having enjoyed stints at Marseille, Grenoble, CSKA Sofia, Nice, and Crystal Palace.

He is perhaps best known for his spell at Blackpool, where he made forty-two league outings in three years, scoring six goals.

He worked under Grimsby boss Ian Holloway at Bloomfield Road and played twenty-three times in the Premier League for the Seasiders.

Holloway is looking to strengthen his side after watching them lose their last two games, and Grandin looks set to follow Josh Benson, James Tilley, Billy Clarke and Anthony Glennon into the Blundell Park dressing room.

The Mariners are nineteenth in League Two, and the report suggests Grimsby are hoping to get the deal done before the window closes on Friday to enable the Frenchman to play in Saturday’s important League Two fixture when Forest Green Rovers visit Blundell Park.

Our View

Holloway is proving to be very popular in Grimsby, but after a good start, he needs to get results, and Grandin will add more experience to his squad.

The popular former Blackpool boss is having a busy January, and he should have enough to move the club into a mid-table position and then build for next year.

If Grandin is fit and up for the fight, he could be a very decent signing for the Mariners.
