Plymouth Argyle defender Joe Riley poised to sign for League Two rivals Mansfield Town as reported by Football Insider.

The twenty-eight-year-old has made eighteen appearances for the Pilgrims this season. However, his contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and the report claims the club is ready to cash in on the right-back rather than risk losing him for free in the summer.

According to the report, a source at Mansfield has revealed the Stags look set to secure a deal for Riley to strengthen their defensive options for the second half of what has been a hugely disappointing campaign for the club.

Mansfield are struggling in the twentieth spot in League Two and new boss Graham Coughlan sees Riley’s experience as a key addition to his side as they battle to avoid relegation.

Riley began his career at Bolton where he made three Premier League outings before a switch to Lancashire rivals Bury. After a year at Bury, he moved on to Shrewsbury in 2016 and helped them reach the League One play-off final in 2018 before joining Plymouth at the end of the campaign.

Our View

Riley is a solid pro and a good League Two full-back, and if reports are accurate, an announcement on his future at Argyle is imminent.

Rumour of Interest from Morecambe are also doing the rounds, but Mansfield appears to be the most likely destination.
