Shrewsbury Town have made Hibernian midfielder Josh Vela their top January target according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Nixon is usually a reliable source of transfer news, and he tweeted this afternoon Salop are interested in the former Bolton Wanderers schemer.
Shrewsbury. Josh Vela. Top of their list.

Vela, who can also play in a variety of midfield roles, moved to Scotland in the summer after leaving Bolton during the Trotters turbulent summer, which was fraught with financial difficulties.
He made one hundred and forty-one league starts at the University of Bolton Stadium after coming through the Wanderers academy. However, he’s failed to establish himself at Easter Road, making only nine appearances and not featuring since early November.
Hibs previous boss Paul Heckinbottom signed Vela but doesn’t appear to be in the plans of new boss Jack Ross, a situation that’s alerted the League One outfit to his potential availability.
He signed a three-year deal at Hibernian in July. Therefore, it is assumed Shrewsbury would be looking to take the twenty-six-year-old on loan, although local reports claim a permanent deal is in the offing.
A decent player who needs to kick-start his career and the New Meadow could be just the place for this to happen.
However, Hibs fans have not been impressed, and Vela would need to recover the form that made him a regular at Bolton for the move to succeed.
He’s tenacious and aggressive, but we can’t help feeling Shrewsbury fans will be asking why is a striker or a creative player not the top of Ricketts list of targets, bearing in mind this season’s goalscoring problems.
