Sunderland commercial department’s attempt at drumming up some Black Friday business in the club shop served only to give fans another opportunity to voice their displeasure at manager Phil Parkinson.
Parkinson has now been in charge for six weeks, and eleven games but his record is dreadful. The former Bradford boss has overseen two cup exits and only managed two victories during a spell which has seen the former Premier League club drop to new depths of eleventh in League One.
He was brutally serenaded with ‘sacked in the morning’ from home fans after Tuesday evening’s 2-1 defeat to bogey team Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light and the reaction on social media since has been at times nothing short of savage.
Having been knocked out the FA Cup by Gillingham in the first round, the club that famously won the competition in 1973 does not have a game this weekend. The commercial department no doubt hoped the offer of a thirty per cent discount 2019/20 training wear and away kit would give supporters clicking their heels for something to do a reason to visit the club shop.
However, Sunderland fans greeted the announcement on the club’s official website with a simple message, ‘Parkinson Out.’
Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter that seem to sum up perfectly the current mood at the Stadium of Light.
Not a chance, parky out first
