Manchester United Under 21s made it a clean sweep from their Leasing.com group games as they beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 at the Keepmoat last night.
Having already won at Rotherham United and Lincoln City, the United youngsters left it late to snatch a win against Darren Moore’s side. Alfie May gave his team the lead, but Ethan Galbraith equalised with ten minutes to go. In the dying seconds, hot-prospect Mason Greenwood popped up with a winner to ensure they take a 100% record into the knockout stages.
The final group game sees Lincoln City needing to beat Rotherham 4-0 to progress, whilst the Millers need at least a point to ensure Doncaster don’t also progress. However, it was the slick performance of the Reds which caught the eye, as it has done in previous games.
The competition has been much-maligned as a sideshow, but with James Garner making the first team in Europe last week after scoring the winner against Lincoln, it’s proving valuable to Man Utd.
So valuable in fact, that some people don’t feel the senior team would get as many victories! That’s just one of the comments pouring praise on the young players who have represented their club with such dignity over the last couple of months.
