‘Jackett out, admin in,’ ‘Announce pay rise’ – These Portsmouth fans love the club’s cheeky social media post at Southampton’s expense

It’s not been a happy campaign for Pompey fans so far this season, and the latest draw at Bristol Rovers did nothing to lift the doom and gloom amongst their supporters.

Portsmouth are currently sixteenth in League One, a position that is unacceptable to many of their fans who continually demand the sacking of under-fire boss Kenny Jackett.

In such difficult times, fans tend to find solace in various forms, and the misfortune of local rivals is always likely to put a smile on supporters faces.

Southampton are the rivals in question and Pompey fans tuning into to Sky Sports on Friday night would have no doubt enjoyed the events that unfolded before them in the Saints Premier League fixture with high-flying Leicester City.

In a quite abject and embarrassing display, Southampton had a man sent off and went on to concede nine goals at home without reply in what was a record-equalling Premier League defeat.

It was a moment in football history that Pompeys’ social media department could not resist celebrating and they tweeted their congratulations to Leicester City soon after the final whistle, to the delight of plenty of Pompey supporters.

From their reaction to the tweet, the club’s media manager is currently more popular at Fratton Park than Kenny Jackett, with many fans demanding a pay rise for the instigator of the tweet, which revels in the discomfort of their rivals from along the south coast who they call ‘Scummers.’

Here is a small selection of responses to the tweet.
