Coventry City boss Mark Robins has revealed he has high hopes for Wesley Jobello’s Sky Blue career after the French winger scored his first goal for the club last week.
The twenty-five-year-old joined the Sky Blues from French second division side GFC Ajaccio for an undisclosed fee in the summer and managed to find the net for the first time in Saturday’s pulsating 3-2 victory over Blackpool. Robins now believes the important goal will allow the talented forward to kick on and show the City faithful more of what he can do.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, the Sky Blues boss said: ‘Wesley’s demeanour changed after his goal because he was a little bit flat before that.’
‘Then he scores, and he changed, so there’s more to come because he’s still not there yet.’
‘We saw things he did in pre-season, at Leamington for example, and the fact is that he’s driving and his energy levels are good.’
‘He’s powerful as well, and he’s played at a good level in France, so it’s an exciting start, and we have a lot of work to do.’
‘I’m delighted for Wes because he scored at Bolton and it was disallowed, so we have been unlucky at times as well.’
‘We can’t get carried away. It’s about building blocks.’
‘There’s a lot of work to do, but when people get tired and when people get injuries, we should be able to change it, and it won’t change too much. That’s the hope.’
Jobello has started in each of Coventry’s seven league games so far this season as the Sky Blues have put together an impressive early-season run of form that sees them sit second in the fledgeling League One table.
Our View
Jobello is already dividing opinion amongst many Coventry fans with some seeing great potential once he settles into the English game while others view him as a bit of a luxury player who has a weak final delivery.
Our view is that even the best wingers can be frustrating, but if Robins has his back, he must see the talent and Sky Blues fans should give him a bit of time to settle in.
If they do, they might reap the rewards in the long term.
Jobello has the talent, and from Robins’ comments, Fans will only see the best of what sound like a confidence player, if they get behind him.
