Joel Lynch has described his previous clubs as ‘mediocre’ when speaking to the press ahead of the Black Cats visit to Accrington on Saturday.
Lynch is an experienced campaigner having played in the Championship for Queens Park Rangers, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield during his long career.
The centre-half arrived at the Stadium of Light as a free agent in the summer following his release by Rangers and speaking to the Chronicle he appeared keen to court favour with his new fans with little regard to those from his previous clubs.
He said Sunderland was the ‘the biggest club I’ve played for’ after spending much of his career with unsuccessful clubs at a ‘mediocre level.’
The comments have been widely reported and were soon picked up by fans of the thirty-one-year-old’s previous clubs who understandably weren’t impressed when they commented on social media.
Indeed, many fans felt that Lynch’s mediocre performances were part of the problem for the lack of success during his time at all his previous clubs.
Here is a selection of responses to the comments on Twitter, with fans of double European Cup winners Nottingham Forest the most vocal.
