Jack Ross has issued a pragmatic response to his side’s 3-0 drubbing at the weekend, as reported by their official club site.
After a run of three consecutive wins in the league, the Black Cats were soundly beaten by Peterborough United at London Road on Saturday. A brace from Marcus Maddison either side of a Josh Knight strike gave the home side all three points in comfortable style.
Ross admitted it was a bad day at the office, but vowed to move on.
“In fairness, we’ve lost with poorer performances,” he claimed.
“It’s not a reality check for us because there’s no way in the world we were carried away or approached this game with (any complacency). If the performance was poor from minute one, I’d have accepted that as a potential criticism, but we were at it on Saturday.”
Sunderland enjoyed a break last night while many sides played in the EFL Trophy, with Ross vowing to put the Posh result behind them going into this weekend’s fixture.
“Peterborough deserved to win the game, they’ve recorded a good result, and we move on.”
Whilst the former St Mirren boss is taking the result in his stride, many Black Cats’ fans are not quite as happy. They’ve responded to his calm comments on Twitter with a mixture of support and condemnation.
Get real Ross as a team we are stuttering along with this squad of players and your naive tactical awareness we won’t make the playoffs never@mind 100 points & promotion.

I’d take a defeat if it follows 5 wins anytime.

We’ve played well 4/5 times in about 60 games under him 🤣

Why? we were literally a second away from going to penalties to win the playoffs and got beat in penalties in checkatrade trophy in his first season when he came in to a utter shambles? yes he has things to learn but he’s young? who are we supposed to replace him with also?

There’s plenty that wish Ross would move on! Biggest budget, biggest squad, best training facilities, biggest support etc etc yet still failed to get the club out of the 3rd Division last season. #Clueless
