Macclesfield Town boss Sol Campbell has today left the club after eight months in charge.
The 44-year-old took over the Silkmen as they struggled against relegation. He turned them into a solid unit, earning their Football League status on the final day of last season.
They’ve started relatively well, an opening day defeat has been offset by a fine 3-0 win against Leyton Orient this weekend, then an EFL cup success as they knocked Blackpool out on penalties.
However, the former England defender has been a victim of the clubs dire financial plight and a statement by the club confirms he’s left by mutual consent.
“We have mutually agreed to part ways with manager Sol Campbell,” a statement said.
This has been conducted in the most amicable of ways and there has been total transparency between the club and Sol regarding the challenges which face lower league clubs such as Macclesfield Town.
We have a very competitive squad in place, as demonstrated by our opening games of the new season and this certainly bodes well for the future.”
These Macclesfield Town fans don’t feel it bodes well for the future at all.
As a lifelong Silkman, this is the lowest point in our famous 8 month history.

Ryan Lowe faced the same, and he stayed & got Bury promoted. And he’s not a multimillionaire like Sol. 🤷🏻♂️

Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse. Thank you @SolManOfficial for all you have put up with whilst being with us.

Like he was ever going to stay he’s sulked ,moaned and complained although his career lower league was never going to suit him but that said good luck to macc for the rest of the season ⚽️👍🏻

Bit harsh Daz!
He performed a miracle keeping them up and they are in a position which is horrendous. Even compared to ours!
