Gillingham have signed former Charlton Athletic winger Mark Marshall.
Gills boss Steve Evans has moved quickly to bolster his ranks in wide areas following the departure of Sheffield United’s Nathan Thomas, who recently had his season-long loan cancelled on compassionate grounds to allow him to spend the season in League Two with Carlisle United.
Marshall is much-travelled, having played for numerous clubs, including Bradford City, Coventry City and Barnet after beginning his careerΒ in non-league with Carshalton and Grays Athletic.Β He also spent one season with Port Vale, before agreeing on a two-year deal at Valley Parade, where he scored six times in eighty-eight outings for the Bantams.
Charlton released Marshall at the end of last season after two years at the Valley. He made sixty appearances for the Addicks, scoring four goals, and judging by the reaction of Charlton fans on social media he was well-thought-of in South London.
Bradford City fans also spoke highly of the thirty-two-year-old who won the club’s Player of the Season Award in 2017.
It is a reaction that will be well received by Gillingham supporters who look set to be watching a player with a tremendous attitude, who always gives his best next season.
Here is a selection of responses to the news on Twitter.

Got a good player there. He looked good when he played for us. Unfortunately he didnt really fit into Lee Bowyers system. Not one report of him complaining about lack of game time though. Sad to see him go actually.

As A Bradford fan. We were gutted to see him leave for Charlton. After rightly winning our player of the season award.
Only left to be with family in London.
Top player and a nice guy!— Adrian Walker (@adiew71) July 25, 2019
