Charlton Athletic face Doncaster Rovers in the League One play-off semi-final this weekend and manager Lee Bowyer has decided to offer supporters a wonderful chance to see the game for free.
They’ve sold 21,353 tickets thus far and everyone who buys between now and the club hitting the 22,000 mark will go into a draw to have their ticket refunded.
It’s a great gesture from a manager who has completely reinvented himself since his playing days. Bowyer has driven his side up the table in spite of their owner, the hated Roland Duchatelet.
Of course, the gesture hasn’t been appreciated by everyone. Some fans are complaining that all 22,000 people should go into the draw and that the offer only benefits the late comers to the game.
It’s a sad indictment of supporters today that anyone can find fault with Bowyer’s approach and rightly so, fans have been quick to defend him on Twitter, with many taking his offer to be another indication of the potential they have with him at the helm.
