‘Has a Manager ever been replaced before the Playoffs’ – Jack Ross under pressure after damaging Fleetwood defeat

Sunderland’s League One automatic promotion hopes are over after they lost 2-1 away at Fleetwood Town last night.

Lee Cattermole had given the Black Cats the lead after half an hour, but Paddy Madden equalised for the hosts with fifteen minutes left to play. Ashley Eastham then broke Sunderland hearts, heading home the winner from a corner in the fifth minute of stoppage-time.

It was only the fourth defeat of the season for Jack Ross’ side, but nineteen draws have proved costly and leave the Mackems in the playoffs.

Ross was fuming after the defeat and revealed to the Sunderland Echo he had told the players a few brutal realities in the dressing room after the game.

However, fans were quick to react on social media following the result, with many pessimistic ahead of the upcoming playoffs and some questioning the manager’s tactics and whether he was the right man to take the club forward.

Here is a selection of their responses to a disappointing and frustrating night on Twitter.
