Bury continued to pile the pressure on League Two leaders Lincoln City on Saturday with a dramatic late win at Stevenage.
Leading scorer Nicky Maynard struck in the fifth minute of stoppage time to send the Shakers travelling faithful ecstatic. The win consolidated the Shakers in second place and closed the gap on Lincoln in first to a narrow two points.
In a scrappy game, Bury failed to find the rhythm that has seen them score the most goals in the division this season, but they battled hard against a Stevenage side who missed several chances when in the ascendency in the first half.
Stevenage also had a glorious chance to win it late in the second half, but Jordan Gibson fired over the bar when it looked easier to score. Bury battled on and snatched victory at the death when Maynard nodded home his nineteenth goal of the season after good work by Scott Wharton.
Bury fans were in confident mood after the victory, quite rightly believing that such resilient performances are a sign of a team that is destined for promotion. Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter.
