Barnsley midfielder Cameron McGeehan has been charged with violent conduct by the FA following an incident in the Tykes 3-0 victory at Southend.
McGeeham netted Barnsley’s first goal at Roots Hall before he was involved in a coming together with Southend left-back Sam Hart in the fifty-fourth minute of the match. McGeehan allegedly stamped on Hart, something that was not seen by the matchday officials but was highlighted by television replays as the game was shown live on Sky Sports.
The twenty-three-year-old has until 6 00 pm tonight to respond to the charge and looks set to be handed a three-match suspension if found guilty. Such a ban would mean McGeehan would miss second-placed Barnsley’s crucial games against Accrington, Sunderland and Doncaster.
The Tykes are already without forward Jacob Brown for those three matches after his straight red card at Roots Hall, while top scorer Kieffer Moore will miss the rest of the season on medical advice.
Barnsley fans were not happy at the news which could further stretch their squad as they look for an immediate return to the Championship. Here is a selection of their responses.
