Barnsley midfielder Cameron McGeehan has been charged with violent conduct by the FA following an incident in the Tykes 3-0 victory at Southend.
McGeeham netted Barnsley’s first goal at Roots Hall before he was involved in a coming together with Southend left-back Sam Hart in the fifty-fourth minute of the match. McGeehan allegedly stamped on Hart, something that was not seen by the matchday officials but was highlighted by television replays as the game was shown live on Sky Sports.
The twenty-three-year-old has until 6 00 pm tonight to respond to the charge and looks set to be handed a three-match suspension if found guilty. Such a ban would mean McGeehan would miss second-placed Barnsley’s crucial games against Accrington, Sunderland and Doncaster.
The Tykes are already without forward Jacob Brown for those three matches after his straight red card at Roots Hall, while top scorer Kieffer Moore will miss the rest of the season on medical advice.
Barnsley fans were not happy at the news which could further stretch their squad as they look for an immediate return to the Championship. Here is a selection of their responses.
The @FA are a joke if McGeehan gets punished. Looking at the ball and the player moves his leg underneath him.
Maybe they should be looking at the Southend “challenges” from the game instead. You know, when our players got smashed into the advertisement boards/edge of the pitch.

So just how can the football league prove that it was deliberate!?! Looked like the full back moved his leg just as Cam was placing his foot on the ground…

Just seen a clip of it. Clearly accidental. No intent whatsoever. He jumped over the southend player who happened to move his leg towards the ball at the same time.

Doesn’t seem very fair to me, watching on tv the referee, assistant and 4th official were all looking at the “tangle” and they all missed it ??? ?

WHAT !. He didn’t do anything violent that’s a disgrace

Didn't even look like he put full pressure down, looked like he realised what was happening and tried to lift off Ilyich knee asap

Honestly thought it was accidental as their player was scissoring his legs about and he did look to take the weight off of his foot when he realised how he landed, don’t think he’s that sort of a player

Yep, as soon as they showed the replay on Sky you knew it was coming

No argument from me
Didn’t like it when I saw it
No place in the game for such fouls
