Shrewsbury moved to appoint a new manager yesterday, replacing the dismissed John Askey with another National League manager, Wrexham boss Sam Ricketts.
Ricketts has guided the Dragons to the top of the National League, but he left ahead of their FA Cup draw with Newport to take up the role as boss of League One Shrewsbury with immediate effect.
Salop only appointed John Askey in the summer, but clearly it didn’t work out with him recently departing the club after less than half a season in charge.
Ricketts has immediately targeted a promotion to the Championship with his new side.
“You probably saw it last year,” he said to local media. “The points total and to not get promoted, (with) more than two points a game, is hugely unlucky. The club’s been there once, why can’t it get that again? You’d like to think it’ll end in promotion.”
The move hasn’t been without controversy, the short while he spent at Wrexham has drawn criticism from their fans. The debate is raging on Twitter and here’s a selection of the posts for you to enjoy.

Regardless of how well this works out for us the reaction from the rectum fans has made this appointment worth while 😂

Well if he goes on to bigger and better like he has this time it will probably be after a period of success for us, I’m all for that.
