Peterborough United kept up their remarkable winning start to the season with a big win in our ‘big match’ in League One and it is fair to say their fans are delighted.
After shipping out the likes of Jack Marriott and Gwion Edwards in the summer, the Posh fans could have been forgiven for thinking that their season wasn’t going to be all that special. Controversial manager Steve Evans always divides opinion , even amongst his own supporters, but those who didn’t rate him are quickly coming around to him. Funny what a few wins will do for the soul!
In truth, Posh were rampant, controlled in the middle of the park by the untouchable Alex Woodyard, a player with more industry than 19th century London. He harried and harassed, pestered and passed in the midfield, allowing some other very special players their time on the ball.
Siriki Dembele couldn’t get a kick in League Two with Grimsby last season, but he looks to be on his way up the Football League. Jason Cummings is on his way down the divisions from the Scottish top flight, through the Championship to London Road, but if he keeps up the performances he’s turned in this season, he won’t drop much lower than the top two of League One.
Matt O’Hara was superb, even Matt Godden, another League Two capture by Evans, looked every inch a League One striker. All over the park, Posh have been excellent.
Steve Evans comes in for a lot of criticism, but one man who does not (and should not) is owner Darragh MacAnthony. He’s Peterborough through and through and finally it looks as though his dream of becoming a Championship side once more could be coming to fruition.
The Posh fans certainly think so, they’ve been posting their thoughts after the rampant win.
