Our 3 predictions for West Bromwich Albion vs Birmingham City

  • 1st prediction: Birmingham City to win or draw
  • 2nd prediction: Under 2.5 goals in the game
  • 3rd prediction: Both teams to score

1st prediction for West Bromwich Albion vs Birmingham City: Birmingham City to win or draw – 2/5

This is a huge game in the Championship. West Brom have been poor so far under inexperienced manager Ryan Mason and have stuttered even more recently which has dragged them down to 17th. There’s a bit of distance between themselves and the bottom three but they will hope to put together some wins to drag them away, but this game looks like a tough task. A win could see them up in to the top half though, as the table is pretty tight in the middle.

Birmingham have been decent recently after a little blip, and are in view of the play-offs. They spent big in the summer and expectations match that, with the Blues finding the Championship harder to immediately dominate than League One here. That being said, with their quality and form at the moment, they have to be favourites to keep climbing the table here despite being away from home.

2nd prediction for West Bromwich Albion vs Birmingham City: Under 2.5 goals in the game – 4/7

This is likely to be an incredibly entertaining yet cagey game, with both sides having plenty to play for as well as the fact it is a local derby game.

Added to that the context of the game, with Birmingham looking up the table and West Brom faltering, and all the ingredients for a cracker are there. Both sides have been pretty decent in attack with plenty of quality, but the close nature of this game and neither side doing amazingly meaning this game will likely be a low scorer decided by the odd goal.

On the contrary, if the likes of Isaac Price and Jay Stansfield turn up we could have a high scorer on their hands but the feistiness of this game and mixed form makes this unlikely, especially with defensive quality considered.

3rd prediction for West Bromwich Albion vs Birmingham City: Both teams to score – 19/20

This is a prediction which is mainly based on the previous one, taking into account the context of the match. The two sides have been inconsistent recently, but this is mainly based on this being a derby game where there is plenty at stake so both sides will probably get a goal despite this likely not being high scoring. West Brom look to be the weaker of the two based on league position but they have home advantage which they will use to get ahead in the game and prevent Birmingham from getting back in.

With both sides looking to climb the table and get local bragging rights a win here is crucial.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a massive game at this stage of the season as the two teams look to climb the table and achieve their goals. That applies particularly for West Brom, who have been particularly disappointing. A loss for them would drag them nearer to the drop zone while losing local bragging rights, and a win would help them get towards the top half. Birmingham have similar motivations; a win would potentially put them in the play-off spots while a loss would put them back towards mid table. They have the confidnece of coming into this one off the back of a thrashing against Norwich, with form generally pretty good. West Brom, on the other hand lost thier last game and have only one in six here. A result here would be huge for the Baggies.
