Former £7 Million West Bromwich Albion Star Could Make Major Move

Former West Bromwich Albion central defender Dara O’Shea is wanted up north by Celtic just 12 months after he left The Hawthorns to join newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley.

Having joined the club’s youth ranks in 2015, O’Shea eventually made his debut for the Baggies in 2019 and went on to become a key player for West Brom. The Republic of Ireland international played 107 times for the West Midlands outfit, scoring seven goals in the process. Furthermore, he was part of Slaven Bilic’s side that earned promotion to the Premier League back in 2020.

Nevertheless, after eight years with West Bromwich Albion, including four in the first-team, the centre-back decided to make the switch to Burnley after the Clarets had been promoted to the top-flight. The fee was reported to be £7 million for O’Shea’s services.

Unfortunately, his time at Turf Moor didn’t quite go to plan. Burnley were relegated straight back down to the Championship in quite mediocre fashion after accumulating merely 24 points from 38 matches. O’Shea played in 33 of these games, although he did also grab seven goal contributions.

However, twelve months after he signed a four-year contract with the Clarets, the Dublin-born defender could be heading straight for the exit door again. It has been reported by the Daily Record that Scottish giants Celtic are hoping to secure his signature this summer.

West Bromwich Albion Could Lose £2.5 Million-Rated Star This Summer

The outlet are claiming that it would take a major bid from the European giants for Burnley to consider selling the centre-half in this transfer window and that the board won’t make a decision on his future until a new manager is appointed to replace Vincent Kompany.

This could be a really enticing move for O’Shea. Following Burnley’s relegation last season, he will now be forced to play in the Championship once more, a division he has already conquered having earned two promotions – one with his current club and the other with West Bromwich Albion.

Celtic could offer him Champions League football, the ability to win trophies on a consistent basis, and the prospect of playing with his fellow international teammates Liam Scales and Adam Idah – the latter being likely to return to Parkhead this summer on a permanent basis from Norwich City.
