Sheffield Wednesday Change Tack In Pursuit Of 7-Goal Attacker

Sheffield Wednesday have turned their attention towards an attacker in Spain’s top-flight amid fears of being priced out of a deal for Ike Ugbo, according to the latest reports.

The former Chelsea academy product spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Hillsborough under head coach Danny Rohl in which he managed to bag seven goals and register one assist in just 19 appearances for the Owls before returning to French side Troyes who have been relegated to the third tier of French football.

Sheffield Wednesday & QPR Interest In £1.8 Million-Rated Ace Played Down

As a result of the club’s relegation from Ligue 2 in the absence of Ugbo, the Canada international will likely leave Troyes on a permanent basis this summer. It was previously reported that Sheffield Wednesday had made contact with his current owners to strike a deal for the 25-year-old. However, journalist Alex Miller from The Star claimed that there is interest from teams abroad and in the MLS for the attacker, but his signature “won’t come cheap” this summer.

Now, Darren Witcoop is claiming that the South Yorkshire club fear being unable to sign Ugbo over the coming months as a result of his price tag and are keeping tabs on Las Palmas frontman Sory Kaba as an alternative.

Despite the Spanish side playing some of the best football in La Liga last season, the striker scored merely one goal in 17 appearances, although he spent the majority of the campaign as the back-up centre-forward to Sandro Ramirez, formerly of Everton and Barcelona.

Kaba currently boasts a market value of just under £1.3 million, as per Transfermarkt, but still has three years remaining on his current contract with Las Palmas so it is likely that Sheffield Wednesday will need to spend a lot more than this valuation.

Nevertheless, choosing to spend possibly the same money on a player like Kaba than a little extra on a Championship-proven player who excelled under the manager last season seems ludicrous. Ugbo, already a fan-favourite at Hillsborough, is a necessary signing for the club this summer.
