‘OK who’s injured?’ – These Crewe fans react to the news of a surprising new signing

Crewe Alexandra have signed goalkeeper Dino Visser on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

According to the club’s official website, the South African joins the club to provide competition for Will Jaaskelainen and Dave Richards for the number one shirt ahead of the final nine games of the season.

The thirty-year-old spent most of his career in the top two tiers of South African football before heading to England. The keeper recently left fellow League Two side Exeter City after making two EFL Trophy appearances against West Ham Under-23s and Oxford United.

He kept a clean sheet against League One Oxford before saving three penalties in the shoot out, making him a popular figure at St James Park.

Visser will be available for selection for Saturday’s visit to Mansfield where Crewe will be hoping to maintain their position at the top of the League Two table.

The signing came as a surprise to many supporters when they took to social media to react. Some fans felt his arrival meant an injury to either Jaaskelainen or Richards whilst others thought it was all immaterial as the season was about to end due to the coronavirus.

Whatever the reasons behind the signing, most fans welcomed the keeper and wished him all the best.

Here is a selection of responses to the news on Twitter.
