It is a tough time to be a Scunthorpe United fan at present. Not so long ago, they were the only Lincolnshire club in the Football League, appearing in the Championship.
Now, they’re struggling at the foot of League Two, below both Lincoln City and Grimsby Town, and their long-suffering fans are watching them slowly fall apart. They were thrashed 5-0 at home by Cambridge United yesterday, leaving them entrenched in a battle at the bottom of the table at this early stage of the season.
The transfer window may have closed, but they’re still trying to bring in players to help the cause, picking up defender Junior Brown on a deal until the end of the season. The 31-year-old played 24 times for the Iron last season, but has been a free agent following his release from Coventry City.
He began his career as a trainee at Crewe Alexandra and enjoyed spells at FC Halifax Town and Northwich Victoria before moving to Fleetwood Town in August 2010. He also had time with Tranmere Rovers, Oxford United and Mansfield Town before signing for Shrewsbury in June 2015, where he made over 100 appearances.
He will certainly add some experience to the Iron’s ailing defence, but their long-suffering fans are acquiesced to their struggle and seemingly don’t envisage Brown doing a huge amount to help the cause.
Hallelujah! Welcome back Junior. Have you any mates that can play?

Ha ha. He's thinking – what? 13 goals in 3 home games?! Think of the money Junior, think of the money. Seriously though, he's one of a few we need.
