Southampton Forward Refusing To Be Drawn To Transfer Speculation

Southampton striker Che Adams is refusing to be drawn to speculation surrounding his future before the opening of the next transfer window, according to a report from Hampshire Live.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window and was set to join Wolverhampton Wanderers until the Saints pulled the plug on the deal.

His start so far

Che Adams has made eight appearances for Southampton so far this season, scoring three goals and providing two additional assists including the winner in a match against Plymouth Argyle.

Adams has been with the Saints since July 2019 when he completed a move from Birmingham City and has since become a popular figure amongst the fans.

The forward has also earned his first cap for the Scottish national team and has since scored six goals in 24 international appearances.

Which teams wanted him?

Despite having the plug pulled on a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, there were several other sides that attempted to prise the striker away from St. Mary’s.

Sean Dyche’s Everton were another side heavily linked with the Scottish international but failed to tempt Southampton, whilst AFC Bournemouth also tried and failed to land the striker.

What’s been said?

During an interview, the forward stated…

“It’s difficult to say. We have just come from a busy summer, jam-packed with everything everywhere and it’s about getting my head down and scoring goals. I’ve come off that for the last few weeks.

My football has to be the most important thing, with games coming thick and fast in the Championship it’s hard to sit down and actually reflect on what’s going on or think about the future.

Writer’s View

Che Adams reportedly has a contract offer on the table from the Saints but the striker is currently refusing to be drawn to any speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

This isn’t an unnatural issue as there will be plenty of other players in similar positions at other clubs across the EFL. However, Southampton need to do all they can to keep ahold of Adams if they are going to get back into the Premier League.
