Preston North End are in talks with midfield duo Ben Whiteman and Alan Browne regarding new contracts at Deepdale, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
The Championship leaders could lose both players for nothing in June 2024, but the football club are desperate to ensure that they don’t lose either of their stars before their deals expire.
How have they started?
Beginning with Ben Whiteman, the 27-year-old has been limited to just two appearances so far this season but has consistently proven himself to be a crucial part of the club’s midfield.
Meanwhile, Alan Browne has made eight appearances in all competitions for Ryan Lowe’s side so far this season, assisting twice including one against Birmingham City in midweek.
An unbeaten start
Ryan Lowe’s men currently sit top of the Championship standings after a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign. This has seen the side win six of their seven games, whilst drawing the other and remaining unbeaten thus far.
Preston North End began the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bristol City before winning six on the bounce. This has included victories against Sunderland, Stoke City and Birmingham City.
What’s been said?
According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Preston North End are keen to tie down their star players as quickly as possible to avoid any rival interest. In a tweet, Witcoop stated…
‘Championship leaders Preston are in talks to tie down highly-rated midfielders Alan Browne and Ben Whiteman to new long-term deals. The pair are out of contract next summer but North End are confident of striking a deal.’
Preston have had a truly exceptional start to the 2023/24 campaign and Browne especially has played a crucial role in that. Being out of contract, it is important that the club tie the duo down as quickly as possible.
In addition, both Browne and Whiteman will most likely be attracting the interest of several sides ahead of a possible January move, which means that Ryan Lowe’s men have to act quickly.
