Leeds United To Explore Move For Championship Striker

Leeds United are set to join Stoke City in the race for West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante before the window closes, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has already been the subject of bids from Stoke City but with Leeds keen to strengthen their attacking options, could they opt to sign the forward ahead of their league rivals?

Who is Brandon Thomas-Asante?

The forward began his career with MK Dons, rising through the youth system as well as spells with Oxford City, Sutton United and Ebbsfleet, before joining Salford City in 2019.

During his time at Salford, Thomas-Asante scored 30 goals in 126 appearances leading to a transfer to West Bromwich Albion on deadline day last year. He’s scored three goals in four matches so far this season.

An improved start

Leeds has had a tough start to the campaign, drawing against Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion, whilst being defeated by Birmingham City away from home.

However, Leeds bounced back with a 4-3 win against Ipswich Town on Saturday, with debutant Joel Piroe grabbing his first goal for the club. They will host Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, with the newly promoted side without a single point this season.

What’s been said?

Thomas-Asante is the subject of fierce Championship interest, with West Bromwich Albion’s financial situation remaining under question. Pete O’Rourke reports that Leeds are willing to challenge Stoke City for his signature but just how serious that is remains to be seen.

Writer’s View

Leeds United would arguably have a bigger pull factor than Stoke City which could make for a thrilling final-day transfer battle between the two sides.

It also remains to be seen what West Bromwich Albion’s stance is regarding his future. However, it would cost at least £3-4 million to land him and that’s if the Baggies are open to selling their star forward this late in the transfer window.
