Leeds United are set to step up their interest in Swansea City striker Joel Piroe, with the end of the transfer window creeping closer, according to a report from Wales Online.
The 24-year-old has been Swansea’s star man of late, netting double figures in terms of goals last season, but could the end be near for his time in Wales?
Who is Joel Piroe?
The forward arrived in Wales in July 2020, completing a seven-figure switch from Dutch giants PSV. To date, Piroe has scored 46 goals for the club, providing a further 8 assists in just 96 appearances. He’s scored twice in four appearances so far this campaign.
A tough start
Leeds United are yet to win a league game since their return to the Championship, providing a frustrating start for Daniel Farke’s men.
The club were held to a 2-2 draw against Cardiff, before slipping to a 1-0 loss to Birmingham City. Last weekend, Leeds were held again by West Bromwich Albion and currently sit 19th ahead of their trip to league leaders Ipswich.
Injuries take their toll
Following the injuries to Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph, Leeds United are in the market for a new striker to try and take the club back into the Premier League, following their relegation last season.
The club have raised funds following the exit of several players, including midfielder Tyler Adams which would open the door for a high-profiled forward to move to Elland Road.
Writer’s View
Piroe would be a huge statement from Leeds United if they could pull it off, as well as it would be a huge blow for Swansea City, especially as it directly strengthens a Championship rival.
However, the money that Swansea would receive would allow Michael Duff to severely strengthen his side for the upcoming campaign, potentially turning the side into play-off contenders.
