Derby County Boss Set To Raid Former Club

Derby County are reportedly set to submit a £1.5 million bid for Rotherham United defender Cameron Humphreys, according to a report from TeamTalk.

The Rams look destined to lose star man Eiran Cashin this summer, with the 21-year-old being eyed up by Premier League side Brighton and a host of Championship sides, with just under two weeks left of the summer transfer window.

Who is Cameron Humphreys?

The 24-year-old was a product of the Manchester City academy before making the switch to Belgium in 2019. He spent three years with Zulte Waregem, before completing a free move to Rotherham last summer.

A difficult start

Derby County have had a tough start to their 2023/24 campaign, losing 2-1 to Wigan Athletic, before crashing out to Blackpool in the EFL Cup.

This brought pressure on their trip to Burton, which the Rams overcome to win 3-0 in what became a comfortable afternoon. However, that joy was short-lived as they lost 2-1 to Oxford in mid-week and will need to recover for their home tie with Fleetwood this weekend.

The Cashin interest

According to TeamTalk, Premier League side Brighton Hove Albion leads the race to sign the Irish defender who has spent his entire career with Derby County.

However, Cashin has attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere, including Norwich City who have held a long-term interest as the pressure continues to mount on Derby’s recruitment team.

Writer’s View

Humphreys played a vital role in helping to keep Rotherham in the football league last season and would be a huge loss for the Championship side if they lost him.

However, Derby will need to source a strong replacement should Cashin be sold and it isn’t a surprise that a player like Humphreys is high on the club’s transfer list. Although it remains to be seen what happens, with there being just under two weeks of the window left.
