Deja Vu Strikes Again As Championship Side Line-Up Move For Barnsley Star

Coventry City are lining up a move for Barnsley star Callum Styles, with a possible £2 million move on the horizon, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

The 23-year-old Hungarian international has attracted the interest of two Championship sides, following his impressive loan spell with Millwall and looks destined to return to the second tier this summer.

Who is Callum Styles?

The versatile midfielder began his youth career with Burnley, before joining Bury in 2016. After two years, Styles made the switch to Oakwell. Styles has made over 130 appearances for Barnsley, contributing to 17 goals.

Millwall stint

Following Barnsley’s relegation into League One, Styles opted to stay in the Championship by joining Gary Rowett’s Millwall on a season-long loan, with the option of making the move permanent.

However, his spell at the Den was affected by injury as he was limited to just 22 appearances, contributing to two goals including scoring during the club’s 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion.

A strong start

Barnsley have had an impressive start to their League One campaign, picking up a 7-0 win against Port Vale on the opening day, before being held to a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Who’s interested?

According to Alan Nixon, both Coventry and Bristol City are keen to land his services this summer, with the fee expected to be around £2 million. Bristol City lost midfielder, Alex Scott, to AFC Bournemouth and will be eyeing up a swift replacement.

Meanwhile, Coventry City have lost midfielder Gustavo Hamer to Sheffield United and is also planning to bolster their midfield options, despite Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Middlesbrough.

Writer’s View

As a Coventry fan, I am delighted to see Styles linked with the club. He’s versatile which plays into Mark Robins’ type of player and he’s also capped for a strong international side.

Similarly, his departure would be a big loss to Barnsley and with Liam Kitching also linked with a move to the Skyblues, it could be a very busy next few weeks for both teams.
