Former Charlton Athletic loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has been linked with a loan switch to Championship side Leicester City this afternoon, courtesy of journalist Darren Witcoop on Twitter.
The 20-year-old shone in League One last season and attracted the interest of several Championship sides including Ipswich Town. However, it now appears that Rak-Sakyi could be set to make the switch to the Foxes, ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Who is Jesurun Rak-Sakyi?
The exciting forward is a product of the Chelsea academy, before joining Crystal Palace at the U18s level in 2019. The winger played a starring role at youth level, as well as making two appearances in the Premier League before joining Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan last summer.
With the League One side, Rak-Sakyi made 43 league appearances for Dean Holden’s side, but his goal and assists tally is what makes him a very hot prospect. The winger scored 15 league goals as well as provided eight assists, which averages a goal contribution in almost every other game last season.
Foxes targeting promotion
Leicester City will be targeting an immediate return to the Premier League, following their surprise relegation last season. The club have lost the likes of Harvey Barnes and James Maddison, which opens the door for a player like Rak-Sakyi to join the football club.
Leicester begin the 2023/24 campaign with a home match against local rivals Coventry City in the M69 derby.
Charlton on the up
Since the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, Charlton have began preparing for the new season, making several impressive signings at League One level. This included the permanent signing of Cheltenham Town striker Alfie May, a player that was hotly contested by several EFL sides.
Similarly, the club also landed Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara on a season-long loan, to further boost their hopes of achieving a play-off place this season and potentially a promotion back to the Championship.
Writer’s View
Rak-Sakyi had an extremely successful 2022/23 campaign and I’m surprised there isn’t more Championship sides chasing his signature this summer. Leicester may have signed fellow winger Stephy Mavididi from Ligue 1, but they still have gaps in their forward line that need filling.
I personally believe this would be an excellent addition to Leicester City and he would really boost the quality that they already have going forward, with the likes of Mavididi, Vardy, Iheanacho and Daka at the club.
