York City has completed the signing of defender Levi Andoh on a free transfer from National League North side Hereford, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s official website.
The 23-year-old is full of pace and aerial presence and will add a crucial amount of attacking options to the club’s defence and become the side’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following the additions of David Stockdale, Quevin Castro, Cedric Main and Zanda Siziba.
Who is Levi Andoh?
The defender was a product of the Aston Villa academy, as well as enjoying various loan spells with the likes of Worcester City and Cradley Town, before he announced his departure, following the expiry of his contract.
He then joined Ipswich Town on a free transfer and made his professional debut in an EFL Trophy clash with Crawley Town. He then had a series of additional Non-League loan spells before joining Hereford on a free transfer in January.
A new era
York City have entered a new era in the history of the football club, following their successful takeover last month. The club have already signed four new players including a return for goalkeeper David Stockdale.
The addition of Levi Andoh will add a significant amount of strength and pace into the side’s defence, ahead of the 2023/24 National League season. He can operate as a right-back, centre-back or right-sided centre-back.
What’s been said?
Andoh spoke to the club’s website following his move to York City, where he stated…
”I’m so pleased to get it over the line, just happy to be here.
“It was a quick turnaround, I only heard about it a few days ago. My agent let me know they were interested and we just got the deal over and done with.”
Writer’s View
Andoh is a terrific addition to the National League side, ahead of the new season. He brings a lot of physicality and an overall defensive presence which the club lacked at times last season.
The defender is a big boost to the fifth tier side and I do think they will improve on their previous finish last season. The club are finally heading in the right direction and I back them to have a successful campaign.
