Charlton Athletic have submitted a loan offer for Ipswich Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni, but face competition from two fellow League One sides, as confirmed by journalist Stuart Watson.
The 22-year-old made the League Two team of the season squad last season, following an impressive loan spell with champions Leyton Orient and looks destined to move into the third tier next season.
Who is Idris El Mizouni?
The Tunisian midfielder is a product of the Ipswich Town academy, first bursting onto the scene in 2018. In his short first-team stint, El Mizouni has enjoyed three successive loan spells.
Last season, the midfielder made 45 appearances in all competitions for Leyton Orient, contributing to five goals as well as being named in the division’s team of the season.
Promotion is the aim
Charlton Athletic had a frustrating 2022/23 season, but finished the campaign strongly and secured a top half finish. The club won 16 of their 46 matches, picking up 62 points and finishing in 10th place.
However, manager Dean Holden will be plotting a promotion/play-off push for the 2023/24 campaign and signing a player like El Mizouni could be the perfect start.
What’s been said?
According to journalist Stuart Watson, there are two other League One side that have joined the race for his signature this summer. In a tweet he stated…
‘Understand that three League One clubs – Derby, Charlton and Wycombe – have made loan offers for #itfc midfielder Idris El Mizouni.’
Writer’s View
The 2023/24 League One season is potentially a perfect opportunity for Charlton Athletic to compete for promotion. With the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town out, the door is open to new sides to launch a proper challenge.
As for the signing, El Mizouni will be an excellent addition to Charlton, adding further strength and creativity to the club’s midfield, ahead of the new season.
