Crewe Alexandra are reportedly interested in signing Burton Albion forward Louis Moult, upon the expiry of his contract with the League One side, as confirmed by the Daily Record.
The forward has been with Burton Albion since 2021, when he made the switch from Championship side Preston North End, but will now become a free agent this summer, following the expiry of his contract with the club.
Who is Louis Moult?
The 31-year-old is a product of the Stoke City academy and has had spells with the likes of Bradford City, Mansfield Town and Accrington Stanley, before joining Non-League side Nuneaton in 2013.
Following various spells, Moult made a significant impression at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, before earning a six-figure switch to Preston. Last season, he made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring once.
A replacement for Agyei?
Crewe Alexandra look destined to lose their key forward Dan Agyei, with his contract set to expire with the club. This means that work will now be required to make sure that the club strengthen their forward line, ahead of the new season.
Moult has plenty of experience at different levels in both England and Scotland and he’ll be keen himself to ensure that he has a better 2023/24 campaign.
What’s been said?
According to the Daily Record, Crewe Alexandra have highlighted the forward as an option for the new season, especially with him becoming a free agent this Summer.
The club are actively looking for forward options and Moult would be a player that would fit the type of forward they’d be on the look-out for.
Writer’s View
I certainly think this is a very intriguing signing by Crewe Alexandra, because Moult is a different option to Agyei and hasn’t enjoyed a goalscoring season for a few seasons now.
However, there is a player in there and if Crewe can find a way to unlock that, they suddenly have an excellent forward player on their hands.
