The FA Cup third round is a time for excitement, for big draws, televised clashes and living the dream.
Boston United, a one-time Football League side, are moving grounds this summer after 86 years at their York Street home and, if they can get past Rochdale in their replay, they’ll host Newcastle United in a game sure to be on the TV.
Port Vale, with their somewhat enigmatic striker Tom Pope, have been rewarded for their win against Cheltenham with a trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City. Gillingham will host West Ham in a relatively local derby whilst Leeds and Arsenal will provide a replay of the 1972 final, whilst Liverpool and Everton will clash in a repeat of the 1986 and 1989 final.
All the magic, all the excitement and yet Oxford United, flying high in League One, have missed out. They’re set to host the winner of Exeter City or Hartlepool United in the next round. Granted, with both in divisions below them, it’s a chance to progress, but it’s a draw that has underwhelmed a number of their fans.
Despite not getting one of the big boys, there’s a strong chance of progression and more money, so that seems to be the overriding emotion after the thoroughly unexciting draw.
Hopefully a Saturday 3pm then. Can’t see any tv companies wanting that.

Glad we're at home! Chance of getting through to round four and more prize money.

Could have been worse. Imagine Hartlepool away.

Least it’s a home tie this time!

We are currently 16 games unbeaten in the league above you not to mention the fact we are also unbeaten v Exeter in the last 8 meetings since 2012.
Plus we will play Hartlepool as you blew a 2-0 lead at home 😂
